Flashing Multitronic 0AW VL381 A4 B8

I was wondering wether somebody has any experience in flashing a Multitronic 0AW VL381 TCU in a facelift Audi A4 B8 (/ B8.5 ) to a newer software version? Currently still driving with the software from the fabric ( 0001 ), but there're already three newer versions... Was thinking about updating it to the most recent sw version: 0004.
SW: 8K5927155Q HW: 0AW927156K UDS, EV_TCMVL381 A02432

I've added the update frf for reference. Is it directly usable in VCP? Became a bit worried after reading that frf's are encrypted and need to be decoded online with ODIS?

Since I'm not entirely sure that VCP is capable of flashing this ECU, I was hoping someone could enlight me with a (definitive) answer.
Would be a bummer to find out it didn't work and that I've to have it towed to the stealership after the failed flash...
Any experience with flashing this ECU with ODIS is welcome as well. I am in the possession of a VAS5054A full chip clone.

Thanks in advance!
Vincent

Hi Vincent,

as per my knowledge the TCU forms part of the immobilizer system. And since introduction of the B8-series the TCU has also so-called "component protection", among other models.

A 1-to-1 copy from a damaged TCU to another TCU with same Hardware is possible. But flashing with the firmware from another TCU will definetely fail.

If you really intend to update your TCU, contact your local "stealership". No other way. But I like your humor for this expession.

Kind regards,

Horch
